Archaeology

Here in Harold’s Cross NS we are very proud of our actual dig site which is used as part of our eight week archaeology module  where our third class students learn all about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Viking Times in Ireland with Mark Kelly (or “Mark the Archaeologist” as he is know to our senior students!)

As part of the module the third classes also go on trips to famous historical sites and museums around Ireland including Trim Castle, Glendalough and Dublinia and if lucky enough may visit an actual live archaeological dig.

Earlier this year a full size replica of a Viking House was built on the school grounds.  This will feed into our history programme and will be an integral part of our teaching.  We hope to open our Viking House to other schools and the wider community.
