Active Flag

Harolds Cross are proud to announce that we are aiming to achieve our Active School Flag! Each and every child will be encouraged to be active during their school day with lots of fun initiatives taking place throughout the year.  Keep an eye here for some of the fun activities we are participating during and outside of our P.E classes.

Find out more about the Active Flag programme below:

Zumba for our whole school community –  Every Friday at 8:50 we try to get as many teachers, pupils and parents in the main yard for 5 minutes of Zumba with our fantastic instructor Audrey. This is a great way to get active and fit as well as waking us all up for the school day. Keep an eye here for some videos and photos from the busy mornings.

Whole School Zumba Blitz – Audrey was really good to allow all students from 1st to 6th class to come together one Friday afternoon for a Zumba blitz. This gave some classes who have been learning Irish dancing in P.E an idea of what Zumba dance classes are like. At the end we had a dance off between our two fifth classes and sixth class where we had 6th as the overall winners after a vote from the younger classes. Comghairdeas rang a sé!!!

Getting Active with Operation Transformation’s 10 @ 10 – The hugely popular television programme Operation Transformation has designed videos online to help students in schools get fit each day. Some of our classes in HCNS  have started to take part each morning for 10 minutes at 10 o clock. Have a look at some clips below.

Deich ar a Deich

Our close link with Crumlin GAA – We are so lucky in our school to have Luke work with us every Wednesday afternoon. He is a very experienced coach and has amazing drills to help the children improve their Gaelic football and hurling skills. During November and December Luke worked with Ms. Judge’s Senior Infants, Ms. O’ Meara’s 3rd Class and Ms. Stone’s 4th class. Pupils really enjoyed themselves and were sad when it came to their last session but Luke didn’t disappoint them. On his last day he brought the famous Sam Maguire cup in for us to take photographs with. Have a look below! In January & February, Luke will work with Ms. Foster’s 3rd  Class, Mr. Glynn’s 2nd Class & Ms. O Connor’s Junior Infants. We hope they learn lots of new skills and play their best in their matches so that we can have lots of new pupils joining our school Gaelic team next season.

If anybody feels they want to continue developing their skills in Crumlin GAA follow the link below to find more information.
