Active Flag

Harolds Cross are proud to announce that we are aiming to achieve our Active School Flag! Each and every child will be encouraged to be active during their school day with lots of fun initiatives taking place throughout the year.  Keep an eye here for some of the fun activities we are participating during and outside of our P.E classes.

Active School Slogans – We are holding a competition to find a slogan for our school for next year. At home you are challenged to come up with a catchy message and design a poster to go with it.Have a look at the great entries we have so far.

Big Congratulations to our basketball players!

On Tuesday the 15th of May, 12 players headed off to a tournament in the Oblate Hall Inchicore. Here the team had to play two games in their pool. First we had a very close game against Scoil Choilm but we played great team defence to come away with the win with a score of 13 -10. We didn’t get a break after that game and we had to play another tough game against Oliver Plunketts straight after. Again a great team performance with fantastic passing saw us beat this team to send us into the final against a different Oliver Plunketts Team from Pool B. The final was a fantastic game for everyone to watch but HCNS were so unlucky to come runners up losing by 2 points in the end. It was great to see such great basketball being played and all these players represent our school so well. Hopefully we will have lots of eager basketball players looking to play more basketball in the future!! Photographs from the tournament will follow!

A proud day for our Cross Country Athletes in Sundrive Park

On the 10th of May, 30 pupils from 3rd to 6th class headed off to Sundrive Park to represent their school in a cross country event. Each runner did fantastic and our school were placed in both the 3rd and 4th Class heats. We lost out by only seconds in being in the overall winners categories but each pupil had a great day at our very first Cross Country race and these students are looking forward to more opportunities to represent their school in the near future!

Zumba for our whole school community –  Every Friday at 8:20 we try to get as many teachers, pupils and parents in the main yard for 10 minutes of Zumba with our fantastic instructor Audrey. This is a great way to get active and fit as well as waking us all up for the school day. Keep an eye here for some videos and photos from the busy mornings.

Whole School Zumba Blitz – Audrey was really good to allow all students from 1st to 6th class to come together one Friday afternoon for a Zumba blitz. This gave some classes who have been learning Irish dancing in P.E an idea of what Zumba dance classes are like. At the end we had a dance off between our two fifth classes and sixth class where we had 6th as the overall winners after a vote from the younger classes. Comghairdeas rang a sé!!!

Harolds Cross went GAGA on the 5th of December –

Our close link with Crumlin GAA – We are so lucky in our school to have a new Gaelic coach Jonathan work with us this year. He is a very experienced coach and has amazing drills to help the children improve their Gaelic football and hurling skills. During December & January he has worked with one of each of our  Junior Infants, Senior Infants , 1st and second classes. In February, he will be swapping to take the opposite classes.

If anybody feels they want to continue developing their skills in Crumlin GAA follow the link below to find more information.
